Electric
Utility Companies became a new target of cyberattacks. A cybersecurity report
by Siemens showed that more than 50% of the global electric utility companies are
expecting at least one cyberattack in 2021.
Some recent
attacks:
1.
Canada’s Northwest
Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) was targeted in April 2020.
2.
Portuguese
electric utility company EDP was attacked by hacker using “RagnarLocker”
ransomware.
3.
Ohio-based
LTI Power System’s sensitive data, including equipment diagrams and drawing,
was stolen in February 2020.
4.
Escom’s (South
African company) data center was attacked in March 2020.
Based on
Siemens’ guidelines all companies need to pay more attention for protection of
critical assets and continuously monitor their infrastructure for any
anomalies.
