London’ residents are using face
mask during the COVID-19 pandemic which impacts face recognition technologies.
Despite complains and privacy concerns from citizens and different government layouts,
UK is using a surveillance technology during the last few years, investigation
using facial recognition has started last year.
Live Facial Recognition is used
to identify the wanted individuals and criminals. The results of technology are not so accurate, a lot of conducted researches show big amount of
false-positive results. But even all related concerns were not able to stop the
face recognition adoption. They weren’t, but pandemic was.
The UK government has introduced
a regulation of wearing face covers in public places and especially public
transport to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Considering this regulation, London
Police reported that face recognition technology may be paused.
